ABOUT THE ROLE

Position

We are seeking a dedicated and appropriately experienced professional to join our Business and Aviation team.

Reporting to Council’s Manager Business and Aviation, this position plays a key leadership role in supporting strong, transparent and effective corporate governance across Council. A key responsibility is to oversee and continually improve Council’s governance framework, ensuring legislative and statutory obligations are understood, monitored and met.

Working across a diverse range of corporate governance matters, the position provides trusted specialist advice and support in areas including governance, risk management, insurance, contracts, property, commercial transactions and legal services.

The role also provides effective leadership, supervision and mentoring to the Governance team, fostering a positive and capable team environment and ensuring the delivery of high-quality governance services across the organisation.

  • Tertiary qualifications at a degree level in governance, business administration, risk management, law or equivalent.
  • Proven excellent interpersonal skills, including high level ability to negotiate and consult on complex matters and explain legislation and policy requirements through effective written and verbal communication.
  • Demonstrated thorough understanding of and experience in interpreting legislation, standards and practices relating to governance, risk, contracts.
  • Demonstrated high-level communication skills, both oral and written, including conflict resolution and experience in the preparation and presentation of complex reports/ contracts and submissions.
  • Proven experience in supervising staff, monitoring of workloads and planning of work.
  • Demonstrated organisational skills, with the ability to exercise judgement and clarity in prioritising issues, clearly demonstrating a proven ability to produce high quality work delivered to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability in dealing with highly confidential and/or sensitive information.
  • Demonstrated advanced report writing skills including the ability to develop policies and procedures.
  • Proven experience in managing and coordinating investigations into alleged misconduct, and ensuring procedural fairness is complied with.

  • An annual salary range of $116,500 to $133,700 (plus 12% superannuation) dependent upon skills, experience and qualifications.
