ABOUT THE ROLE

Position

Council is seeking a Building Surveyor to join our dynamic Building Services team. Reporting to the Coordinator Building Services, this role offers a rewarding opportunity to play a key role in shaping safe, compliant and high-quality development outcomes across our community. 

In this role, you will assess and determine development applications, undertake inspections of buildings under construction, and provide professional building certification services. Your work will ensure developments meet all relevant statutory requirements while supporting efficient and responsible growth. 

These positions provide the opportunity to work within a high-growth coastal regional council, delivering a diverse portfolio of residential, commercial and industrial projects. From small-scale developments to more complex builds, you will gain exposure to a broad range of work that will challenge and enhance your expertise. 

Council will consider both full time and part time working arrangements, and will discuss further with the preferred candidates and interview stage. 

To be successful you will bring

  • Behaviour that positively demonstrates Council’s values of: creative, accessible, respect, energetic and safe.
  • Tertiary qualifications in building surveying.
  • Minimum NSW Fair Trading Accreditation as a Building surveyor—restricted (class 1 and 10 buildings) (formerly A3).
  • Demonstrated ability to carry out the following certification work on class 1 and 10, and 2-9 buildings:
    a) acting as a Principal Certifier;
    b) issue Complying Development Certificates, Construction Certificates, and Occupation Certificates under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979;
    c) carrying out critical stage inspections.
  • Demonstrated experience in the assessment and determination of development applications.
  • Demonstrated effective communications skills, including conflict resolution and the ability to provide technical reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision, whilst also demonstrating a high level of collaboration across the team and with key stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience and competence in the use and application of the Microsoft Office suite, building surveying related software and other corporate software.
