ABOUT THE ROLE

Position

Reporting to the Manager Communications and Customer Service, this position leads the strategic delivery of Council’s destination and economic development portfolio, bringing together tourism, visitor services and business engagement to drive sustainable growth.

You will lead a small team to implement initiatives that enhance Ballina Shire’s reputation as a vibrant and attractive place to live, work, invest and visit.

This position is a temporary appointment for up to 13 months.

To be successful you will bring

  • Behaviour that positively demonstrates Council’s values: creative, accessible, respectful, energetic and safe.
  • Tertiary qualifications in tourism, business, communications or a related field, or equivalent professional experience in destination or economic development.
  • Proven experience leading the development and/or implementation of destination, tourism or economic development strategies.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading a team with the ability to develop and mentor staff to perform and promote a positive work environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage cross-functional teams and deliver strategic programs.
  • High-level stakeholder engagement and communication skills across sectors.
  • Demonstrated experience in the tourism sector and/or in a Visitor Information Centre, including experience in retail sales and tourism bookings (e.g. tours, accommodation, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience in marketing and promotional activities, with proficiency in using social media for destination or business promotion.

The rewards

  • An annual salary range of $93,500 rate to $107,300 (plus 12% superannuation) dependent upon skills, experience and qualifications.
