ABOUT THE ROLE

Position

We are currently seeking a passionate individual with extensive professional public and environmental health experience to join Council's Public and Environmental Health section. 

Reporting to the Coordinator Health and Environment, this role will be part of a collaborative team focused on enhancing community well-being by promoting public health, safety, and environmental sustainability. The duties of this senior position are varied, involving the oversight of compliance with health and environmental regulations, and managing the Council's associated regulatory and enforcement responsibilities.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated extensive experience in the delivery of specialist environmental health services within a local government context, with the ability to independently manage complex and varied environmental health issues.

  • Tertiary qualifications at degree level in an environmental health related field.
  • Proven extensive experience in delivering specialist environmental health services within local government, with a demonstrated ability to independently manage complex and varied environmental health issues.
  • Proven ability to prepare and present comprehensive environmental health reports and submissions, demonstrating advanced written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated in-depth professional knowledge of public health, environmental health, and development compliance, including a thorough understanding of key legislation such as the Public Health Act, Protection of the Environment Operations Act, NSW Food Act, Local Government Act, and Environmental Planning and Assessment Act with a strong history of applying this knowledge.
  • Proven extensive experience in developing and maintaining strong relationships with diverse community sectors and stakeholders, demonstrating the ability to effectively manage competing priorities and resolve conflicts in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Demonstrated advanced analytical and critical thinking skills, with a demonstrated ability to independently assess and exercise sound judgment in complex environmental health matters, compliance, and enforcement actions.

The rewards

  • An annual salary range of up to $112,600 (plus 12% superannuation) dependent upon skills, experience and qualifications.
